Grammy Nominated Artist Tracy Perez was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and is the oldest of four sisters. Tracy was blessed with a natural talent for singing. Her earliest childhood memories were of her singing around the house every day, which was so frequent, it became annoying to her younger sisters. They still lovingly tease her to this day. It wasn’t until she started attending her aunt’s high school performances that she would find her inspiration to pursue her God-given talent as a vocal performer. Being close in age with her aunt, Tracy would find herself naturally harmonizing with her aunt’s singing. Throughout Tracy’s middle school and high school years, where she attended Grantham Middle School and Humble High School respectively, she would find her own footing as a natural vocal performer, winning competitions, and countless awards.
During her teenage years in the mid 90's, Tracy was honored to meet Houston Legendary Songstress, Norma Zenteno, in which the two quickly became good friends. Norma recognized Tracy’s talent and would support her with invitations to perform with her and her band, The Norma Zenteno Band, on many occasions. After high school, Tracy began her professional singing career performing locally as a solo vocalist with highlighted performances at Houston’s Wortham Center, Houston’s Miller Outdoor Theater con Mariachi, The Houston International Festival, The Westheimer Street Festival, and many other special events and venues making her presence known on the local music scene, which lead to performances in Las Vegas at the Aladdin Hotel.
In the late 90’s, Tracy’s talent and versatility presented her offers to explore freelance invitations to perform with different local bands in various genres. In 1999, her husband, manager, and current band leader, Thad Perez, introduced her to Robert Dorantes, Band Leader of one of the top Tejano bands in the industry, Houston's Powerhouse Avizo, where she accepted the offer to front his 10-piece horn band as lead female vocalist. The pairing of Tracy's vocal and Dorantes’ Powerhouse band would broaden horizons for both Perez and Avizo as they crossed over into the Top 40 Variety Band Music Scene, becoming one of the hottest Houston Variety Cover Bands. Dubbed as “Houston's Powerhouse”, the ensemble performed prestigious and high profile events for Congresswoman Silvia Garcia’s New Year’s Eve Ball at The Johnson Space Center, corporate events for Silver Eagle Distributors’ annual Christmas Party at The River Oaks Country Club, performances for The Houston Texans during their inaugural season at NRG Stadium (known as Reliant Stadium at the time), and for the Houston Astros in the Phillp 66 Home Run Porch over left field inside Enron stadium, now Minute Maid Park. We cannot forget the infamous Richmond Strip! Tracy and the Powerhouse invaded the popular club scene on Richmond Avenue, known as the Richmond Strip during the club heyday with unforgettable performances at the top spots for live music. As Tracy and the Powerhouse Band continued to take the Top 40 Houston Music Scene by storm, they never strayed too far from their Tejano roots. Tracy has always embraced her Mexican American heritage. As a teenager in the 90’s, during Tejano Music’s most popular decade, Tracy developed the additional ability to deliver the same passionate emotion through song, not only in English, but in Spanish as well. It wouldn’t be long before band leader Robert Dorantes and Musical Director Ralph Garcia soon took notice and decided to take the act to the next level by returning to the studio and recorded the smash hit “Corazon de Piedra (Heart of Stone)". The capture of Tracy’s passionate, heartfelt vocal delivery, accompanied by the powerful impact of the horn arrangement quickly grabbed the attention of Radio Program Directors across the region. The hit song was the first single off Avizo’s 2005 release, “The Power of Friends” which was the first time the brass Tejano band ever recorded and released a song that features a female lead vocalist. Tracy was honored with recording three songs on the album, including the remake of the classic, “Nunca Jamas (Never Again)”, with Tracy vocally delivering the intense emotion expressed within the lyrics, she held her own next to Tejano Super Stars and Legends Little Joe, Jay Perez, Ruben Ramos, David Marez and Augustine Ramirez, who were all featured guest-star vocalists on the album. Tracy and Avizo followed up the release with a supporting regional tour, while also maintaining their status in the local Top 40 circuit under the Powerhouse brand. The following year 2006, “The Power of Friends” received a Grammy Nod at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards. That same year Tracy nabbed two Tejano Music Award Nominations, Female Vocalist of The Year and Female Entertainer of the Year, a first for both Tracy and Avizo from both award shows. Throughout the next few years, this powerful team that hails from Houston would continue to place their stamp on the Tejano Music Industry. Their collaborative talents receiving heavy regional radio play, a busy schedule of both national tours and local performances, along with multiple award nominations has undisputedly earned the era of Houston’s Powerhouse Avizo featuring Tracy Perez a page in the history books of Tejano Music and the local Houston Music Scene.
Tracy’s dream of recording her very own full-length solo album would come true in 2010 when Thad Perez, her husband, Manager and Executive Producer of the album, teamed up with good friends, members of La Mafia David De La Garza and Tim Ruiz, to produce her debut solo album. Together they assembled an all-star roster of studio musicians, recorded at La Mafia’s Urbana Studios, where the magic of the soul inspired Tejano album, “Through It All” featuring Grammy Nominated Singer was created and captured. Released in 2011, the album earned Tracy two more Tejano Music Award Nominations- one for Best New Artist-Female in 2011 and another nod for Female Vocalist of the Year in 2012, bringing her career total to 5 Tejano Music Awards Nominations. Tracy’s solo album also spawned 5 hit singles that received national radio play in heavy rotation. The first single “Llevate Todo (Take Everything)” raised some eyebrows when it hit the airwaves with her emotive vocal runs and supportive musical arrangement conveying the feelings behind the expressive song lyrics. The second single “Llorando”, a Spanish/Cumbia version of Roy Orbison’s “Crying”, landed the number one spot and maintained the top charting position 4 weeks in a row on the Nationally Syndicated Tejano Radio Show, Countdown USA with Ben Gonzalez. The success of the album launched a seven-city Texas Radio Tour, with appearances in Lubbock, Amarillo, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Victoria. This was followed by multiple performances in Houston and San Antonio, highlighting a memorable night performing center stage inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX for thousands of music fans, and few TV performances, with two being on Houston's ABC-13. "Through It All" by Tracy Perez is a showcase of Tracy's signature vocal delivery, conveying passionate and heartfelt emotions through her versatile musical roots of Tejano and R&B. The album includes her soulful renditions of “Sweet Thing”, "I'm Going Down", and of course “You’re All I Need To Get By” a duet that features another Houston and fellow Grammy Artist Keyboardist/Vocalist David De La Garza. The full album is available on all streaming platforms.
With fulfilling her dreams of recording, receiving multiple award nominations, touring, and performing for hundreds of thousands of music lovers through the years since the age of 18, Tracy decided it was time to focus on her job offers from her corporate career, and in 2013, she took a hiatus from the music business. During this time, Tracy would occasionally perform as a substitute vocalist for other bands in need of a last-minute fill-in up until the end of 2019. Also working as a studio musician for hire, recording vocals for local, national and international bands and solo artists. Tracy also re-collaborated with Avizo during this time for their DIVA MANIA album alongside some of Tejano Music’s leading ladies, Stefani Montiel, Shelly Lares, Patsy Torres, Linda Escobar, recording a beautiful rendition of “Mi Primer Amor (My First Love)” and a Spanish/Tejano version of Steve Perry’s Foolish Heart, entitled “Corazon." The hit remake showcases Tracy’s belting, powerful, vocal control, and range, matching the impassioned vocal of her all-time idol, super star Steve Perry.
All the while during her hiatus, with never fully walking away from music, her husband Thad Perez, who equally shares a deep passion for music since childhood, would continuously encourage her to make her return to the stage full time over the next few years, with sharing his passionate thoughts and ideas of wanting to produce a complete live show for her that would showcase her versatility and ability to perform multiple genres at a high level. After some time, this encouragement started to resonate with Tracy and the minute Thad took notice of her piqued interest, he founded and formed The Tracy Perez Band. Comprised of an all-star cast of versatile musicians, performing a multi-genre variety of hit music, spanning the eras with current hits, timeless classics, and even lesser-performed gems that sets her show apart in the circuit. The Tracy Perez Band’s energetic live shows, specializing in faithful recreations of each song, interactive live performances, coupled with her captivating and passionate vocals, is a portion of the ingredients that keeps audiences engaged, placing Tracy Perez back in the forefront of the Houston Music Scene, with the band a top choice for live music events. As Tracy continues to pursue her God-given gift with another dream to come true of fronting her own band, the moment in time is even more special for her. Tracy’s husband and band Managing Director, Thad Perez, who has always been a force in her entire music career, once dubbed “the man behind the curtain” has now joined her on stage with his vocals. But wait, there’s more! Their son, Thaddeus Perez II, who practically grew up in the music business, also serves as the band’s sound engineer through his father training and has now become his Pop's right-hand man in the production and show operations of the band. Yep, it’s a family affair! The Tracy Perez Band actively performs a busy schedule of pristine concerts and events in and around the Houston area, adding new highlighted memorable performances, most recently for the Houston Astros at the 2022 World Series and the 2023 American League Championship Series-Games 2 & 7 at Minute Maid Park, in their hometown of Houston, Texas, just to name a few. An exciting new chapter continues for Tracy, with her husband now on stage with her and now with their son as huge part of the act.
